2016 Giro d'Italia Stage 19 Highlights

I will be the first to admit I have not followed the Giro that closely this year, but there was a lot of drama today. If you find yourself in a similar situation, here is a little Giro snapshot.

Pocatello, Lemhi, Sawtell Rides

June is a busy month for cycling in Southeastern Idaho with numerous events including a century in Pocatello tomorrow, the City Creek Pedal Fest June 10th and 11th, and Spinderella June 18th. I want to mention three additional events for your calendar for which we will be providing transportation.
One week from tomorrow, Saturday June 4th, will be our much anticipated Pocatello ride. It includes four climbs (Buckskin, Pebble Creek, Mink Creek, and Scout Mountain) with a distance over 70 miles and just over 7000 feet of vertical. You have two options for transportation. You can plan to meet us at the Visitor's Center at the south Pocatello exit to start the ride at 8:30, or yuo can ride the van. Kellen’s van will depart from Sticks and Stones at 7 a.m. If you want to ride in the van, you need to RSVP to me or Kellen and plan to arrive early Saturday to load your stuff or stop by Kellen’s house Friday Night. Cost to ride in the van will be $10.
June 11th is the Lemhi Valley Century ride. More details including departure time will be forthcoming. You will need to reserve your spot in the van. Cost will be $20 per person. That is a fraction of what it would cost to shuttle your own vehicle to Salmon and back.
June 18th will be the Sawtell gravel ride. Again, more details will be forthcoming.

TNR at Kelly Canyon

Thanks to Kellen for this little selfie at the end of the pavement at Kelly Canyon. It was another great TNR last night, a little on the long side, with favorable weather, a couple of short gravel sections, and the climb to Kelly Canyon.

Kelly Canyon to Lyon Creek Road/Gravel Loop

We are just back from one of my favorite local rides. Kelly Canyon to Lyon Creek starting and finishing in Rexburg is a ride with a good mix of pavement, gravel, scenery, and climbing. Plus today we mixed it up with a little singletrack. The total distance is just over 50 miles. The loop requires 3 ½ hours of steady work for a reasonably fit cyclist. Tim Martindale joined us for the first part of the ride, but had to leave before the pictures due to a scheduling conflict.

RPI Caps Participation at 500 for 2016

If you want to ride Rebecca's Private Idaho, early registration is yuor best bet. I am reposting a video that we posted previously because I think it deserves a second look, plus it will be new for some of our readers. I just rewatched it and noticed a good shot of Dan G. at about the 30 second mark.

GMBN: Retro Vs Modern - The Cross Country Mountain Bike Race, Brief Triathlon Report from Tony.

The 90’s era Klein will look very familiar to many of our readers. Don’t expect a real race in the video, more of a little discussion: Look how much progress we have made. As I was posting this video, I thought specifically about Tony and how fast he is going to be this season a brand new mountain bike. By coincidence, Tony called with a race report from the ½ Ironman Triathlon in St. George. The two locals who participated, Tony and Sherri Virgin both finished in an unusually difficult year that featured high winds which made the swim like the inside of a washing machine as well as heavy rain during the already difficult bicycle leg.

From Bart: New Cycling Strong Kit Available For Pre-Order Now

You can follow the link to see the bibs and vest. This is a great looking kit. It is a race fit, and according to Bart has a very similar fit to the DNA kits. *Ordering closes on 5-15, one week from today*

Squires' Dugway

We took a little diversion on the TNR last night for a friendly race up Squires’ Dugway; a short, steep little piece of pavement in Archer. This is a Strava segment with a previous best time of about 4:29. Kellen crushed that with a time of 3:41 followed closely by Parker and Bart.
