Fat Pursuit-The Video

Today's Post Register featured a report on the 2016 60 K Fat Pursuit which took place on Saturday. According to the PR article, temperature at the start was -20 F and dipped as low as -25 F. The difficulty was compounded by soft snow conditions that required miles of bicycle pushing. According to the PR, only about half of the 53 starters were able to finish. I had been feeling pretty bad about missing the Fat Pursuit even given the temperature until I read about the snow conditions. Congratulations to the finishers and non-finishers alike who were willing to get out in the snow and suffer.

Kelton Races Some of the Top Juniors in the US at Colorado State Championships

Congratulations to Kelton on an outstanding sixth place finish racing against numerous national contenders. According to Brian, conditions were sloppy during the Junior Race with a skiff of snow and super slick grass. Kelton rode an unreal 14 psi to maintain traction. In spite of difficult conditions, Kelton’s category had some of the fastest times of the day.
This photo was taken during the men’s pro race which Kelton rode to pick up points for a better starting position at Nationals. The figure on the podium is none other than Katie Compton, winner of the women’s pro race.

UTCX Adds Final 2016 Race

Single Speed Mayhem: There Will be Mud.

If you have followed cycling news the news over the weekend, you probably heard that recently retired Sven Nys competed in the Single Speed Cyclocross World Championship. Speculation is that he let Adam Craig win because of his ambivalence about accepting the traditional winner’s tattoo. This video is from the 2015 SSCX World Championships. I have posted some SSCX videos in the past, but I don’t believe I have posted this one. Enjoy.

Near the Menan Butte Road

I went on a ride with Tony this morning starting on the Menan Butte Road, on the south side of Highway 33 and west of the Menan Buttes. It is an area that Tony is very familiar with, mostly new to me. The area is crisscrossed by a fairly extensive network of primitive roads with just enough snow today to make the riding more fun and interesting that it would have been in the absence of snow. The only real negative is the area’s tremendous popularity with shooting enthusiasts. If you go there on a weekend, expect plenty of gunfire.

First Snow Ride of the Season

I was surprised to find perhaps 14 inches of snow today in the Lyons Creek area. Last year, Tony and I managed to get in a couple of good rides on snowy singletrack in the same area before it became unrideable, but we missed that window this year. The road had been plowed to Luthy Corrals but conditions were pretty rotten beyond that. Today was my first day back on the bike after almost two weeks sick so it was pretty nice just to be back out.
