Incredible Cube, Final TNR Tomorrow NIght
Thanks to everyone (participants, organizers, sponsors) for another great Cube yesterday. We are sorting out some technical issues, but plan to post a large number of high quality photos on the Rexburg Cycling blog sometime today.
Over many years, the Tuesday Night Ride has evolved from a duration of about five months to about eight months of weekly rides, due largely to the extension of Daylight Savings Time. But like all good things, even the extended season ends eventually. It is always with nostalgia and some sadness that we wrap up another year. The final TNR of 2016 will depart from Sticks and Stones at 5:30 tomorrow. We hope to see you there.

Positive Feedback from The Cube 2016
Thanks to Dawn for the photos in this post. We were fortunate enough to have two professional photographers on the course yesterday, Heather Williams and Ryan Chase, so we will be linking to and posting numerous additional photos. As most of our regular readers are aware, Brian Williams designed this year’s course and managed to incorporate some new and challenging features. All of the feedback that I got on the course was positive. Conditions were perfect for cross-cool, some mud, but highly rideable. At least three people, including me, went into the hard right just before Heckle Hill, with too much speed and hard braking. Team physician, Jeff Hancock, expertly stitched me up after the race. In addition to building the course, Brian designed and printed another very popular Cube shirt.
Irene from the City Rec Department promised me that official results will be posted tomorrow. In the meantime, I will acknowledge the winners that I am able to. Davey Mitchell won the Men’s “A” followed by Kelton and Kellen. No other women challenged Shae in the “A” race, so she had to content herself with beating most of the men. The “B” race featured very solid competition on the women’s side with Hannah Thatcher winning and the Hurst sisters Morgan and Emma finishing second and third. I will verify the men’s “B” podium tomorrow. It was won by a very fast guy in a Fitzgerald’s kit followed by a couple of the Madison Composite Team Riders.
One of the most promising things about yesterday’s Cube was the high level of participation by members of the high school Mountain Bike Team. All of the Madison kids rode great and I think had a lot of fun. They are the cross racers of the future. At the start of the “A” race, I attempted to acknowledge our numerous sponsors (Teton Oncology, Kelson, Joe Hill and Sticks and Stones, Bill’s Bike Shop, Dave’s Bike Shop, Farmer’s Bakery, Chris Huskinson, and many others), organizers (Rexburg Races-Jeff, Irene, Samantha. Chris Huskinson and Tony Perkins who with me have been the organizing committee since the original Cube, Jeff, Kellen, Dan, Shae, and many others), and supporters (the Cube racers, friends, family, photographers, volunteers). There is always the risk of overlooking someone who has contributed, so if I have failed to mention you personally, please forgive me.
I am going to give Eric Balog the final word on the 2016 Cube: “I wanted to publicly thank the Rexburg crew for hosting the Cube. It’s my favorite CX event of the year- I love the course, the organization, the racers, and the families/fans. You have built a great cycling community. Thanks for another fantastic event & congratulations to top racers like Davey, Kelton, Kellen-and really to EVERYONE that came out and raced.”

Thanks to Everyone for Another Great Cube Today
We enjoyed another fine day of cyclocross in Rexburg. The morning started out rainy, but the course held up pretty well, even in the wet conditions. We had a very strong showing from members of the Madison Composite Mountain Bike Team in both the B and A races. I will post more information along with photos tomorrow.

Great Pumpkin is Cancelled.
Sometimes, depending on the venue, conditions are too bad even for cyclocross. According to Gray, the new venue for the Great Pumpkin is deep, unrideable mud and conditions are only getting worse. The forecast is for the rain to diminish by morning. I am hopeful that we will have good conditions for the Cube. In addition to the Cube, please don't forget the other local races:
- Blue Goose Saturday Nov 6th at Freeman Park in Idaho Falls
- Bengal Cross Saturday Nov 12th at Bartz Field in Pocatello

Cube Preride, Updated Map, Updated Website
We had about a dozen people show up for the semi-official Cube pre-ride last night. Brian designed the course and it is outstanding, with a mix of familiar and novel elements. Thanks to Jeff for his excellent map and to Lana for updating her fine Cube website. http://bit.ly/2eP4lSn
A lot of work goes into organizing the Cube and we are not done yet. It's going to be all-hands-on-deck at 7:30 Saturday morning to finish taping and marking the course. If you can be there, we need your help. For anyone who is not racing, the City can always use extra volunteers throughout the day, especially with the kid's race.
I am very grateful to everyone for their help and look forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Epic Day at Missoula
We had a tremendous day of cyclocross at Rolling Thunder in Missoula on Saturday. The outstanding course was fairly technical with significant amounts of climbing, descending, and mud, as well as a pass through the Big Sky Brewing Co brewery. In spite of its difficulty, the course had a number of fast sections and flowed very well. Dan persuaded me to do a bang-bang with him (two races almost back-to-back). Kellen placed fourth in a fast Cat-4 field. Shae was absolutely flying in both the women’s Cat-4 and Cat-3 races.
Apparently Montana is a haven for multi-million dollar supercars due to its tax laws and super-rich part-time residents. Adjacent to the course were a couple of warehouses full of every exotic you could dream of (pictured with Kellen are a Pagani, two Bugattis, and a Porsche Carrera GT). The cars inside included a McLaren F-1 and rows of vintage Ferraris along with many others. Kellen, who has a very good eye for cars believes we were looking at $100 million of vehicles.
Thanks to Dawn and Kevin for excellent support and to Dawn and Shae for the photos.
