I am pretty nostalgic today reminiscing about the golden age of extended same day and real –time coverage of the Spring Classics on OLN/Versus, especially the crown jewels Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. That level of television coverage would probably have never existed in the US without Lance Armstrong’s domination of the Tour de France. Maybe, the current coverage would be better had it not been for Lance’s fall from grace. More likely, today’s abysmal level of network coverage is due primarily to the short attention span and fickle viewing habits of American sports fans who would rather watch bass fishing than bicycle racing. In the meantime, let’s all be grateful for YouTube.
