TNR at the Fun Farm Bridge

Thanks to Kellen for climbing the bridge to take the photos. We had a great ride tonight but a little sad since it was Jake Parkinson’s final TNR prior a cross-country move. Fittingly, Jake won the sprint into St. Anthony.

GTNP Roads Open to Traffic One Week From Today

There is one only one week remaining to enjoy the roads of Grand Teton National Park free from vehicular traffic. Decades ago in Desert Solitaire, Edward Abbey had a vision of the National Parks being closed to private vehicles with bicycles as the preferred means of travel into the Parks. The number of bicycles on the roads of GTNP during the month of April has grown steadily year by year including families, children, and even tiny kids on Strider bikes. For many people, it is the best time of the year to visit Grand Teton National Park.

Antelope Island MTB

Over the weekend, Thomas, Stephen, and I went on a mountain bike ride on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. The Antelope Island trails are familiar to Tony from a mountain bike race that used to be held there in the distant past, but this was my first time riding there.

Thomas has ridden a little on Antelope Island and put together a high quality two hour ride which incorporated the White Rock and Split Rock Loops. It featured a decent amount of climbing, some mid-technical rocky descents, some longer smoother descents, and strange other-worldly scenery. My only significant complaint was the biting gnats which are minimally deterred by insect repellent. The gnat situation reportedly becomes worse as summer temperatures rise.
