Some Thoughts as the Cycling Season Approaches

Cyclists:  As a new season approaches, I have a few news items that I would like to share.  As you are aware, the off season has been dominated by the story of Lance Armstrong and his precipitous fall from grace.   I think most people who have followed cycling have seen this coming for some time now, but most of the public was caught off guard.  Volumes have been written and will continue to be written about LA aSnd this dark era in cycling.  Here is one of the best pieces I have read:
An Open Letter to Lance Armstrongn. Red Kite Prayer

In a piece of more positive news, the World Cyclocross Championships were held last weekend in Lexington Kentucky, the first time ever outside of Europe.  The event was a huge success and provides a validation of the vigor of cross culture in the United States.  Full length HD video is available on YouTube
Women’s Elite Race:

To give you something to fill the off season, Jeff Hancock has created a blog with information on local skate skiing.
This seemed like a good idea, so I am going to experiment with a similar blog for cycling.
Please let me know if you have anything you would like to post or contribute there or if you have any suggestions.

The organizers of the Lemhi Valley Century Ride have coordinated their schedule so it will not conflict with Ratpod this year.  The date for the Lemhi Ride is Saturday, June 22nd.
Ratpod is the following week Saturday June 29th.  Ratpod registration opens March 5th at eight a.m. and fills within a couple of hours.

The Tour of Utah has announced its route of 2013.  It will run from August 5th to August 11th.  The route is substantially different than previous years including stages in Southern Utah with one stage crossing the massive mountain passes from Boulder to Torrey.
Preregistration is open for The Ultimate Challenge, Saturday August 10th.  This event is held in conjunction with the Queen Stage each year, but will be even a little longer this year with extra vertical.  The Snowbird finish stays the same, but the start has been moved to Snow Basin Resort near Ogden.

The North American Handmade Bicycle Show will be taking place in Denver February 22, 23, and 24th
Brian will be displaying four Kelson bikes:  a steel 650 B mountain bike, a titanium road bike, a carbon road bike, and a Ti-carbon RAD bike.

I hope everyone has had a good off season and look forward to seeing you soon.                                                                                                                                                                                     Dave
