Chick-a-Saw Ride 2020

In lieu of the Crusher in the Tushar  this year we decided to substitute our beloved Chick-a-Saw ride.  Over the course of the day I began a mental list of all the things I liked better about this ride than going down to the Crusher (no offense Burke!).  Here's a short list:
  • Slept in my own bed
  • Woke at 6:50 AM feeling well rested
  • Rolled out with friends (and family) going downhill for the first 10 miles or so
  • Paced the first climb up Chick Creek Road beautifully
  • Temperatures topped out at 75° F on the Chick Creek climb
  • Max temp a whopping 75.2° F° on the Sawtelle Climb (55.4° F was chilly on top)
  • Mid-ride pit stop wonderfully stocked and attended by the Shirley clan
  • Refreshing dip in Moose Creek before riding the "hot tarmac" section (max temp 82.4° F)
  • Wonderfully paced climb up the Col 'd Sawtelle
Altogether a great day on the bike.  On the Chick Creek loop of the ride we only saw a total of two(!) OHVs until we were back down to the Big Springs Road.  From there on we had our fair share of motorized road traffic, but for the most part they were very respectful, several times going so far as to slow/stop as we passed so we weren't eating their dirt on our ascent (thank you random citizen!)

Hope you can join us next year!

Almost to the top of the Chick Creek climb!
