DOPING IN JACKSON HOLE
As some of you will no doubt already know, doping has entered the spotlight in Jackson. Holly Balogh, a local triathlete has been banned from competition for four years. The reason for such a harsh suspension for a first offense is that not only did Ms Balogh dope, she also then ignored the admonitions of her coaches to stop doping or stop competing. When she refused to do either, her coaches contacted USA Triathlon/Ironman and informed them of their client's behavior. Ironman arranged to have her tested at her next race. She failed that drugs test.
What she did next is an indication of her lack of remorse. Rather than apologize for her cheating, return prize money/prizes, and sit out her ban, Ms Balogh chose to begin entering ultrarunning races...under a different name. While it is still unclear whether the ultra races she entered were under the auspice of WADA rules, her use of a pseudonym to race is a clear indication she felt she was "getting away" with something.
Ms Balogh has been contacted by JHCycling and informed that she will not be permitted to attend any JHC events or group rides.
The JH News & Guide is in the midst of writing an article/conducting an interview with Ms Balogh. JHCycling and others in the Jackson athletic community have been contacted by the newspaper for comment.
JHCycling will release a statement on this matter after the publication of the newspaper article.
